3 tips to get the most out of AWS re:Inforce 2023

Five years ago, Amazon Web Services (AWS) introduced AWS re:Inforce, a premier tech event focused on the important issues in cybersecurity today — compliance, identity, privacy and more. This year's event will be held June 13-14 in Anaheim, California. Highwire is the home agency to multiple AWS partners, and we're excited that nine of our clients are sponsoring AWS re:Inforce this year.

AWS re:Inforce is a must attend cybersecurity event

Since its inception, AWS re:Inforce has been one of the most important tech events of the year. What started as a "state of cloud security" event has become what's been called the industry's "summer checkpoint" on cybersecurity. In 2022, re:Inforce featured over 250 sessions and hands-on labs, 100 AWS partner sponsors and over 6,000 attendees. This year's agenda is even more jam-packed.

Tips for Maximizing Your Conference Time

Taking the most advantage of major cybersecurity conferences requires preparation and planning. Whether you're going as a sponsor, an in-person attendee, or dropping in virtually, here's how to make the most of your time at AWS re:Inforce.

1. Develop a keynote course of action

AWS re:Inforce keynotes are always exciting. Each day this year kicks off with a presentation from top experts, including CJ Moses, AWS CISO; Debbie Wheeler, Delta Air Lines, SVP & CISO; and Becky Weiss, AWS Senior Principal Engineer. You can expect to hear real-world use cases and tangible results.

While you’ll want to attend almost all of the keynotes, full schedules make it tough to manage. Be realistic with your time. We recommend identifying which presenters align with your business interests and attend the ones most suited to addressing your needs.

If you are just beginning your AWS journey, Wheeler's session on how Delta Airlines and AWS partner to secure the airline's operations may be the right choice for you. Or, if you are tasked with making decisions related to cyber investment planning, it may be more fitting for you to tune into CJ Moses, AWS CISO rather than Becky Weiss, AWS Senior Principal Engineer, whose presentation may fall on the more technical side.

Planning ahead helps to ensure you make the most of your time there while meeting speakers and attending the sessions that matter the most to you.

2. Brush up on today's top cyber trends

The latest cyber news will likely dominate your conversations at re:Inforce. Before you head to Anaheim, make sure you're up to date on the latest trends. This will help you have the most productive discussions. Here's a list of the top topics we'll be keeping an eye on:

  • Generative AI is here to say —and so are its inherent risks: The popularity of ChatGPT at the start of 2023 has manifested into a full-on AI boom. Many are concerned about AI's threats as it becomes more advanced, even if we're not quite sure how those risks will transpire.
  • Cybersecurity regulations are at a pivotal point: Due to ongoing critical infrastructure attacks, ransomware threats and threats from nation-state adversaries, the country is at an inflection point for regulations —  successful protection depends on collaboration between the public and private sectors.
  • Cybersecurity in the boardroom: CISOs are struggling to educate and influence the C-suite and the boardroom on the importance of implementing stronger cybersecurity cultural awareness.

3. Narrow down your networking

There are endless possibilities when it comes to networking. In addition to meeting new people in your field, it’s also a time to nurture relationships with people you don’t often have the chance to meet with like your clients, customers, colleagues and partners. re:Inforce is an ideal opportunity to catch up with them, whether on the show floor or outside the conference halls.

And when it comes to “after conference” events, there’s more than a few that will probably pique your interest. Choose the top 2-3 you’d most like to attend. Here are our top recommendations:

  1. Experience the Magic with Trend Micro & Capgemini
    June 14, 2023  |  5:30 pm - 9:30 pm PT

  2. AWS Happy Hour in the Expo
    June 13, 2023 | 4:00 - 5:00 pm PT

With proper planning, you will allocate your time properly, giving yourself the opportunity to foster deep and insightful conversations with colleagues and have a little fun, too.
